Dr. Buz Wilcoxon\, Lassiter Chaplain and Dean of Spiritual Life at Presbyterian College. \nJoin us Friday\, November 6 through Sunday\, November 8 in Massanetta Springs\, Virginia. Registration starts at 10 AM on Monday\, September 14 and goes through Monday\, October 19. \nRetreat Brochure \nRetreat FAQs \nRetreat Fees 2026 \nRegister for the Retreat (registration begins September 14\, 10:00 AM)

SUMMARY:The Meaning\, Magic and Mystery of Middle Eastern Rugs and Textile Art
DESCRIPTION:Middle Eastern rugs are far more than decorative floor coverings; they serve as sophisticated visual languages\, spiritual tools\, and cultural archives. Mr. Pratt will discuss three main sections in summary of how they convey meaning: \n1. Function in Prayer and Spiritual Spaces \n2. Telling Stories and Historical Narratives \n3. Regional Patterns and Tribal Identity \nRoger Pratt is a passionate collector\, traveler and recognized expert in antique rugs and global textiles. He serves on the board of The Textile Museum at George Washington University and is past president of New York’s rug and textile group\, the Hajji Baba Club\, founded in 1932. \nRoger’s fascination with collecting began in the early 1990s. Over the decades\, he has cultivated a deep appreciation for the ethnographic\, religious\, and historical dimensions of weaving. For Roger\, rugs and textiles are far more than decor; they are profound expressions of cultural art that reveal how people lived and adapted over time. His diverse personal collection spans the globe\, featuring everything from 18th-century Persian and Kurdish pieces to intricate Indonesian textiles and regional headwear from the Silk Road. \nJoin us in Heritage Hall\, the lowest level of Elliot House each Sunday for our Adult Forum.

SUMMARY:Rise Against Hunger Meal Packaging Event
DESCRIPTION:Join our event and get involved in growing the movement to end hunger. It starts with a meal\, and it starts with you. \nRise Against Hunger is committed to addressing food insecurity through nourishing lives\, empowering communities and responding to emergencies. \nPeople living in rural areas and young children are disproportionately affected by food insecurity\, which is why Rise Against Hunger works predominantly in remote\, last-mile communities. We are focused on supporting people who face challenges in accessing adequate food. A large percentage of our meals are also distributed through school feeding programs to address children’s nutritional needs\, like in Madagascar where 10-year-old Ematokisoa receives daily meals at school. Ematokisoa previously did not have enough nutritious food to make it through the school day\, but he has been able to continue his studies since receiving meals and is preparing to begin secondary school. By providing food to nourish lives\, Rise Against Hunger is working to alleviate food insecurity in remote areas in countries around the world.
