SUMMARY:Ash Wednesday Worship
DESCRIPTION:The Lenten journey from the ashes of death to resurrected life begins on the first day of Lent\, Ash Wednesday\, which signifies a time to turn around\, to change directions\, to repent. This first day of Lent reminds us that unless we are willing to die to our old selves\, we cannot be raised to new life with Christ. The first step of this journey calls us to acknowledge and confront our mortality\, individually and corporately. In many traditions\, this is symbolized through the imposition of ashes — placing a cross on one’s forehead. During the imposition of ashes the words: “You are dust\, and to dust you shall return” (Genesis 3:19) are repeated again and again. We are to remember that we are but temporary creatures\, always on the edge of death. On Ash Wednesday\, we begin our Lenten trek through the desert toward Easter.\n \nJoin us for worship at 7:00 PM in the Meeting House. \n

SUMMARY:Scottish Walk St. Andrew's Service\, Parade and Cookie Walk
DESCRIPTION:As Alexandria was founded in 1749 by Scottish merchants – and named after Scotsman John Alexander — we can all claim a special connection to Scotland no matter where our ancestors originally resided. Longtime residents as well as those new to the area can all embrace this season with several opportunities to celebrate our Celtic historical ties. \nThis year the 54th Annual Alexandria Scottish Walk will be held on Saturday\, December 6! \n9:00 AM St. Andrew’s Society Worship and Wreath Laying Ceremony\nThe celebrations will begin with a worship service in the Meeting House at 9:00 AM with the St. Andrew’s Society joining Rev. Dr. Shelly Wood in the pulpit. Immediately following\, the St. Andrew’s Society will lead a wreath laying ceremony in the churchyard behind the Meeting House. \n11:00 AM Scottish Walk Parade\nAt 10:00 AM we will all gather in Fellowship Hall\, the lowest level of the Education Building\, for refreshments before heading off with the St. Andrew’s Society to lead the parade of bagpipers through the streets of Old Town! \n11:30AM – 2:30 PM Annual Meeting House Cookie Walk \nFollowing the parade our Annual Cookie Walk is returning bigger and better than ever. Come and fill your cookie tin with Christmas Cookies. All donations will benefit the Historic Preservation Fund for the Meeting House. \nCome for it all or just the service\, the  parade\, or the Cookie Walk  – whatever your schedule allows. Bundle up in plaid\, wear your kilts\, and be prepared for this fun annual tradition that will surely put us all in the holiday spirit! \nFor any questions or further information\, contact Sandy Davis at sandydavis629@gmail.com.
