10th Annual Architecture of Compassion: Scott Kratz, President & CEO Building Bridges Across the River
April 12 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am
Join us for the 10th Meeting House Architecture of Compassion series, featuring compassionate individuals in our community who have followed their hearts and dedicated their unique skills to nurturing in-person social connections. These efforts foster both mental and physical healing through shared experiences. This year’s series will be featured during our Adult Forum, held every Sunday morning in Heritage Hall, located on the lowest level of Elliot House at 9:30 AM. Come and be inspired by a variety of speakers sharing meaningful topics that enrich our lives and strengthen our community.
Sunday, April 12 we welcome Scott Kratz.
Over the last 12 years, the non-profit Building Bridges Across the River and the District government have been transforming an old freeway bridge into Washington D.C.’s first elevated park. The 11th Street Bridge Park will stitch together communities long separated by the Anacostia River. Bound by Capitol Hill on one side and Anacostia neighborhood on the other, this new civic space will be a destination for District residents and will support the community’s environmental, cultural, economic, and physical health.
More recently, the Bridge Park has evolved by expanding its scope to include the creation of local farms, community development, and neighborhood stabilization work. This is exemplified by the creation and implementation of a Community Preservation Plan that outlines how the Bridge Park and partners can ensure local residents can combat displacement to stay and thrive in place.
