10th Annual Architecture of Compassion: Dr. Matt Roberts, Director, Alexandria Seaport Foundation

January 25 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

You’re Invited!
Join us for the 10th Meeting House Architecture of Compassion series, featuring compassionate individuals in our community who have followed their hearts and dedicated their unique skills to nurturing in-person social connections. These efforts foster both mental and physical healing through shared experiences. This year’s series will be featured during our Adult Forum, held every Sunday morning in Heritage Hall, located on the lowest level of Elliot House at 9:30 AM. Come and be inspired by a variety of speakers sharing meaningful topics that enrich our lives and strengthen our community.

Sunday, January 11 we welcome Dr. Matt Roberts.

Dr. Roberts will lead a discussion on how compassion, rather than financial efficiency, can and should guide educational policy and practices. Dr. Matt Roberts is a U.S. Army Veteran with over twenty years of experience teaching in public education. He completed his undergraduate degree in History from Elmhurst University, a Master’s Degree in Administration and Policy Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, and A Doctor of Education Degree in Learning Sciences with a focus on Out-of-School Learning also from the University of Pittsburgh. His research focuses on active learning in non-typical settings. Currently, Matt serves as the Program Director at the Alexandria Seaport Foundation, a non-profit that works with disconnected youth from across the region. The Seaport Foundation uses traditional wooden boatbuilding and woodworking to prepare young adults for employment in a variety of fields. In this class, participants will be asked to consider the foundational purpose of education in our society. We will discuss how the factory model of education emerged and how we can reimagine a system that promotes a compassionate and creative society.
