Naming Our Faith

Rev. Emily A. Peck (she/her) is Visiting Professor of Christian Formation and Young Adult Ministry at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., where she is also Director of Research and Education for the Hub for (Re)imagining Ministry. Her books include Arm in Arm with Adolescent Girls and Nobody’s Perfect.

We use language every day – written, spoken, signed, and typed. We may, however, not often think about how the language we use shapes our faith and the practice of it. In this class we will explore together our use of language, including metaphor, when we talk about God, the church, our own faith, and how it both creates and reflects our reality and our understandings of the Holy Spirit.
