Starting January 11 we will explore the tough and troubling texts of scripture with Linda Lanam for 5 weeks. The God we worship can be, to quote Bible scholar Walter Brueggemann, “unsettling.” The same adjective can be applied to the collection of books we refer to as “the word of God.” For every passage that comforts and consoles us, there is another that confronts and challenges–or confuses–us. How do we as Christians understand these troubling and troublesome texts? Come and join Linda in conversation about what the Bible does (and does not) tell us about topics like violence, wealth, the role of women, the treatment of the poor and the alien, and more.
Sundays, January 11 to February 8, 9:30 -10:30 in the Library in Elliot House.
