October 19-Scottish Church History from Knox to Baillie
In this session, we’ll look at some of the highlights in Scottish Church History from the establishment of the Church of Scotland in the 16th century to the 1940s. Rev. Meek will draw attention to some important figures, events, and places that some of our members visited on their recent trip to Scotland and think together about how they relate to Scotland’s storied history and people.
October 26-Modern Scottish Church History and Theology
In this session, we’ll take a closer look at the Disruption of the Church of Scotland in 1843, its ecclesiastical carnage and theological implications. More specifically, Rev. Meek will focus more on how Scottish theology begins to change in the latter part of the 19th century, exemplifying the Reformation principal: ecclesia reformata, semper reformanda (the church reformed and always reforming according to the Word of God), and think together about what theological lessons we might learn from our Scottish ancestors. Additionally, I’ll say a few words about the people whom I served at St. Giles’ Cathedral and the challenges facing the Kirk today.
