Make a planned gift that tells the story of your hope.

The Meeting House legacy started in 1760 when Alexandria's Presbyterians began worshiping in Assembly Hall on Market Square in Alexandria. Today, we build on that legacy to make a lasting impact in our church’s ministry and mission. We encourage you to remember the Meeting House in your planned giving.

Stories of Impact

Giving to the church through a legacy gift helps God change lives, strengthen churches and transform the world. To learn what motivates the incredible generosity of these donors, watch their stories.

How to Give

When the Meeting House receives assets as a beneficiary under a will or trust after the donor’s death, the gift is known as a “Planned Gift.” Planned Gifts can be made from a variety of asset classes such as cash, securities, qualified retirement plan/IRA assets, the death benefit from life insurance, or real estate. All gifts are welcome.

We encourage you to complete and return a Donor Declaration form that will guide the use of your Planned Gift to the Meeting House. (If you would like to print a PDF of the Donor Declaration, please click here).

Three Easy Ways

Can you really make a planned gift for free? In many cases, YES! Here are some ways:

  • 1

    Retirement Accounts

These are often the most heavily taxed assets for heirs, yet tax-free when left to the church. Simply write in Old Presbyterian Meeting House on your beneficiary form with your account administrator. You might then direct to your loved ones assets that have little or no tax.

  • 2

    Account Beneficiary Designations

Write in Old Presbyterian Meeting House as the beneficiary of bank or investment accounts through a form at your financial institution.

  • 3

    Will or Trust

Include a charitable bequest to Old Presbyterian Meeting House through a simple statement in your will or trust.  If you include this at the same time you are writing or revising your will, it may cost nothing extra. Or you might be able to use a codicil, which is an addendum to make relatively small changes to a will.

Each type of gift has different benefits.  Please consult with your own legal and financial advisors to ensure whatever gift you decide up fits your circumstances and goals.

A planned gift does not replace or conflict with annual giving to the Meeting House. Your annual gifts support the church’s current operational needs and fund the annual budget. Your planned gift provides financial resources for the church’s future mission and ministries.
