Chrismons are symbols in white and gold that point to Jesus. Each Chrismon refers to some aspect of Jesus’ identity.
The first Chrismons were created by Mrs. Frances Spencer in 1957 at the Ascension Lutheran Church in Danville, VA. She designed the ornaments based on Christian symbols and ancient Christograms. She envisioned them as a way to celebrate Jesus’ birth and teach about his life and ministry.
This year we are adding a Chrismon tree in the sanctuary to our Advent celebration. A Chrismon will be featured each Sunday of Advent related to the sermon text.
Children, youth and adults are invited to create Chrismons at the Advent Celebration on November 30, 9:30 AM in Fellowship Hall. You can also join us for making Chrismons on the following dates: Tuesday, October 28, Thursday, November 13 and Friday, November 14. All dates are 1:00-3:00 pm. Using materials and supplies provided we will decorate Chrismons to add to the tree.
