Presidents Day Wreath Laying, Parade and Open House
February 19
Save February 19 to celebrate some Alexandria history! It starts with a Wreath Laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Solder of the American Revolution at 11 AM in our church burial ground, a parade at 1 (you can view it from our front steps with us) and tours offered all day at the Meeting House.
We are looking forward to a grand day to join with people of good will who converge on Old Town Alexandria to join in Alexandria’s George Washington Birthday Day Celebration!
FREE TOURS
From 10:00 AM-3:00 PM the Meeting House will open for FREE tours (joining all of the city’s museums, Carlyle House, etc.) and welcome all visitors. We are looking for a few OPMH Ambassadors to help with hosting these tours. Your job will be to greet people on the steps of the Meeting House and invite them to tour and hear stories of the history of the Meeting House.
WREATH LAYING
And finally, everyone is welcome at 11:00 AM for the Wreath Laying Ceremony at Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the American Revolution, Old Presbyterian Meeting House churchyard burial ground, organized by our own Sandra Welch, member of city’s George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee and Kate Waller Barrett Chapter, National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution.
PARADE
The parade at 1:00 PM celebrates the 275th anniversary of the founding of Alexandria in 1749 with a theme of “George Washington: Alexandria’s Original Living Legend” and “Living Legends of Alexandria” serving as the parade’s Grand Marshals. The parade passes north on Fairfax Street directly in front of the Meeting House, making its porch both a terrific locale to view the parade AND the congregation’s own “reviewing stand”! Please join us on the porch!
