Scottish Walk St. Andrew’s Service and Parade
December 7 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
As Alexandria was founded in 1749 by Scottish merchants – and named after Scotsman John Alexander — we can all claim a special connection to Scotland no matter where our ancestors originally resided. Longtime residents as well as those new to the area can all embrace this season with several opportunities to celebrate our Celtic historical ties.
This year the 53rd Annual Alexandria Scottish Walk will be held on Saturday, December 7! The celebrations will begin with a worship service in the Meeting House at 9:00 AM with the St. Andrew’s Society joining Rev. Dr. Shelly Wood in the pulpit. Immediately following, the St. Andrew’s Society will lead a wreath laying ceremony in the churchyard behind the Meeting House. At 10:00 AM we will all gather in Fellowship Hall, the lowest level of the Education Building, for refreshments before heading off with the St. Andrew’s Society to lead the parade of bagpipers through the streets of Old Town!
Come for it all or just the parade or service – whatever your schedule allows. Bundle up in plaid, wear your kilts, and be prepared for this fun annual tradition that will surely put us all in the holiday spirit!
